Recovering from Surgery
After your pet’s procedure is finished, we’ll move them to a comfortable recovery area while they come out from under the anesthetic. We’ll also use laser treatments on the incision area in order to increase blood flow and promote a faster healing process.
Before we send your pet home with you, we’ll give you specific instructions on how best to care for your pet as they heal. Your pet’s healing process is just as important as the surgery itself.
We’ll give you tips for helping your pet heal quickly and correctly, such as:
- Give your pet a quiet indoor space so that they can rest
- Moderate your pet’s activity so that they don’t pull their stitches
- Keep your pet’s incision area clean and dry
- Use a cone or a wide collar to keep your pet from irritating their wound
By doing everything above, you’re giving your pet the best chance they have at a proper, fast recovery. We recommend that you keep a close eye on your pet’s incision. If you see any redness, swelling, or discharge, and if your pet isn’t eating or throwing up, your pet’s incision may be infected. Call us right away if you suspect your pet’s suffering from an infection. We’ll be able to get them the medicine they need to clear up the infection and go back to healing quickly.
