Emergency Veterinary Care in Magnolia

Compassionate Emergency Care

Accidents happen. We’re here for you and your pet when they are suffering from a medical emergency. Shady Brook Animal Hospital is able to accept emergency medical cases during our normal office hours, six days a week.

We believe it’s important to offer after hours care for your pets as well. You can call our hospital number and be connected to a veterinary team member as soon as possible. We will ask you questions about your pet’s symptoms and behavior to ascertain what might be happening with your pet.

If your pet is experiencing a medical emergency, call (281) 916-8553 right away to speak with one of our Magnolia veterinarians.

Symptoms that indicate that your pet might need emergency care:

  • Apparent paralysis
  • Change in body temperature
  • Difficulty standing
  • Excessive bleeding
  • Loss of consciousness
  • Pale gums
  • Rapid breathing
  • Seizures
  • Weak or rapid pulse

If you observe these symptoms in your pet, give us a call before you bring your pet in. We’ll be able to be better prepared when you bring your pet in and we’ll be able to give you advice. Depending on your pet’s symptoms, we might be able to help stabilize your pet over the phone.

Your pet may be just as scared as you are. When pets are scared, they can become aggressive. As you approach your pet, move slowly and calmly. For dogs, if they behave aggressively towards you, have another person help you gently lift your dog onto a makeshift stretcher or kennel. For cats, gently place a cloth over their head so they won’t bite you. Then you can lift your cat gently into a carrier or box. For both cats and dogs, make sure that you’re supporting their head and neck just in case they’ve suffered a spinal injury.

First aid you can do for your pet:

  • Elevate and apply pressure to excessively bleeding wounds
  • Use your fingers to try to remove blockage if your pet is choking
  • Give your pet a sharp rap to their chest if you’re unable to remove blockage

If any of these methods don’t work or don’t apply, don’t worry. We can still help you! Our Magnolia Veterinary team can also walk you through CPR over the phone.

While we are an American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) accredited hospital, we may refer your pet to a 24-hour emergency facility. For some severely injured pets, 24-hour care is necessary to keep them stable. We recommend Emergency Pet Car of Texas for pets who need critical care.

Do not hesitate if your pet is experiencing an emergency. Call (281) 916-8553 as soon as possible!
